How we support pupils with SEMH

How We Support Pupils with SEMH
At our school, we are committed to helping every child feel safe, understood and ready to learn. For pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, we provide a strong and caring offer that supports emotional wellbeing, social development and positive relationships.
A key part of our approach is having a dedicated member of staff who oversees SEMH support and pastoral care. This helps us make sure that pupils receive the right support at the right time, and that families know who to turn to if they need advice or guidance.
Support is offered in a variety of ways, depending on each child’s individual needs. In some cases, pupils benefit from in-class support to help them stay engaged and confident in their learning. Others may take part in targeted interventions designed to develop social skills, emotional regulation and resilience. We also provide nurture spaces, sensory areas and regulation rooms where children can take time out, reset and return to learning when they are ready. One of the tools we use is the Cubbie, which offers a calm and supportive space for regulation.
Pupils also have access to our school counsellor, who provides a range of support, including counselling, anger management and help with understanding and managing feelings and emotions. This work can make a real difference in helping pupils build confidence and develop healthy coping strategies.
We value pupil voice and actively listen to the views of children with special educational needs. Their thoughts and experiences help shape the support we provide. We also take extra supervision and care measures to help prevent bullying and to protect vulnerable pupils, ensuring that everyone feels respected and included.
Above all, we want every child to know that they matter, and that there is always someone here to help.
